Clifford Tops Meat Goat Show with Grand and Reserve Champions
AUBURN — At just 11 years old, Bowen Clifford claimed the top two spots in the DeKalb County 4-H goat show, exhibiting the grand champion and reserve grand champion meat goats on Thursday.
Clifford, a member of the Fairfield Farmers 4-H club and the son of Jimmy and Lindsay Clifford, is in his second year of showing goats. His hard work paid off with both top honors in the meat goat competition, and he was also named intermediate meat goat showman.
He explained that his daily routine includes feeding, washing, walking, and bracing the animals to prepare them for the show. In addition to showing goats, Clifford is also involved in 4-H cattle projects.
Abbie Harris, a 16-year-old 4-Her, took grand champion in the dairy goat show with her medium heavy-weight market dairy goat. Harris, in her seventh year of 4-H, is also a member of the Fairfield Farmers 4-H club and the daughter of Anita and Craig Harris.
She shared that her interest in showing goats stemmed from finding them “cute” and wanting to try something fun.
Weston Nester secured reserve grand champion in the dairy goat competition. Meanwhile, Baylee Doster and Charlotte Albaugh claimed premier showman titles in the dairy and meat goat categories, respectively.
