Construction of North Platte’s Sustainable Beef Plant Ahead of Schedule, Operations to Begin in 2025
After moving 55,000 loads of dirt and assembling 3,900 pieces of precast concrete, Lincoln County’s Sustainable Beef processing plant is ahead of schedule and set to begin operations in April 2025.
CEO David Briggs highlighted the project’s rapid progress since its inception in August 2020, citing North Platte’s strong desire for the facility as a key factor in its success.
The plant, which will employ around 800 people, is expected to have a significant economic impact on the region.
Gary Person, President of the North Platte Area Chamber and Development Corporation, noted that Sustainable Beef has already boosted local development, with 17 housing projects and increased retail activity.
Hiring for plant workers will ramp up in early 2025, with many employees expected to come from within 100 miles of North Platte.
General Manager Ryan Wagnon, an industry veteran, expressed excitement about joining the project, emphasizing the community’s enthusiasm for the facility.
Concerns about potential odor from the facility have been addressed by project manager Natalie Pochop, who explained that modern air scrubber technology will minimize any environmental impact, making the plant a state-of-the-art facility compared to older ones along I-80.
While the plant will start operations in April 2025, it is expected to take 8 to 10 months to reach full capacity, processing 1,500 head of cattle per day.
