Stocking up on a selection of high-quality steaks, chicken options, American Wagyu beef, and seafood has never been easier, thanks to the best meat delivery services.

But, with so many delivery options, how to choose the best one?

As a huge carnivore, I’ve tried all meats delivery subscriptions available. Today, I’ll talk about my experience using Debragga and ButcherBox meat delivery.

I’ll explain the key differences, whether they offer quality meat, and which one you should choose.

ButcherBox vs Debragga: Key Differences

Top view of Debragga meat on cutting board

The main difference between Debragga and ButcherBox is that ButcherBox is a box subscription service, while Debragga is an online butcher, where cuts can be bought a la carte.

You can order specialty meats from Debragga whenever you want.

On the other hand, you have to set up a delivery subscription for ButcherBox, and the box is automatically sent to your home every month.

They also differ in meat availability. Debragga offers more kinds of meat, including cured meats.

They have a vast selection of beef, including grass-fed and Wagyu beef, pork, lamb, poultry, veal, and a selection of meat for charcuterie. Debragga is one of the rare meat subscriptions that offer lamb and veal.

On the other hand, ButcherBox, offers grass-fed beef, free-range organic chicken, heritage breed pork, and seafood. They don’t have a charcuterie offering, veal, or lamb.

While both meat subscription options offer quality meat, if variety is your primary concern, Debragga is the winner here.

Comparing Their Features Head-to-Head

Here’s an overview of all Debragga and ButcherBox features.

1. Meat Sourcing

ButcherBox has one of the best reputations for meat sourcing on the meat delivery market.

They work as a kind of a farm liaison and only source the meat from sustainable farmers. Most of their meat comes from family farms and is processed in high-quality facilities.

Their meat is humanely raised, without any antibiotics or hormones:

  • Humanely raised beef The cattle ButcherBox uses are raised humanely. Their diet consists of grass only, and the cattle are free to roam during the whole year [1].
  • Organic chicken — The chickens are also given space to roam and forage. Moreover, ButcherBox made a commitment to source 100% of their chickens from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) or the Global Animal Partnership (GAP)-approved breeds/strains by 2024.
  • Humanely raised pork — Includes heritage breeds such as Duroc, Berkshire, and Chester White. It’s raised crate-free, and the slow maturation process ensures great marbling [2].
  • Wild-caught seafood — Sustainably sourced to ensure enough seafood for future generations.

Debragga is a little less transparent when it comes to their sourcing practices, but a little digging discovered they also source their meat from small farmers.

Debragga meat is never given growth hormones, and the livestock eats natural grains and grass.

“Our quality starts with the supplies that we choose. We have to be very considerate of what kind of product we’re bringing to our facility. We try to support local agriculture.”
- Peter Sarrazin, Debragga Vice President

Their Wagyu beef is sourced from the USA, Australia, and Japan, and each cut is raised according to strict Japanese standards.

They also source their pork from heritage breeds such as Gloucester Old Spot pork. This is one of the rarest heritage breeds in the US [3].

2. Shopping Options

ButcherBox has several box options:

  • Curated box
  • Custom box
  • Mixed box
  • Beef and pork box
  • Beef and chicken box
  • All beef boxes

The curated box is pre-selected, which means you can’t choose what kind of meat you’ll get. The custom box allows you to select high-quality meats shipped to you.

Debragga doesn’t have a delivery subscription, but it functions as an online butcher shop. They have sections for:

  • Pork
  • Veal
  • Lamb
  • Poultry
  • Charcuterie
  • Beef — everything from Wagyu and grass to naturally raised

3. Flexibility

ButcherBox gives plenty of flexibility. You can choose monthly or bi-monthly subscriptions.

It’s also easy to cancel, pause, or modify your subscription, as long as you do before the order has been billed.

You can also try this meat delivery company for one month and cancel fee-free if you aren’t happy with their delivery.

As mentioned, Debragga is an online meat delivery service that doesn’t have a box subscription.

This actually gives you more flexibility. ButcherBox has only one option that lets you choose which cuts you’ll get.

Debragga is all about the customer's choice. For example, you can order Kobe beef, two hot dogs, one boneless veal loin, two slices of New York State foie grass, and more.

It’s completely up to you what and how much you’ll order. With Debragga, you order quality cuts whenever you want, and they have the meat delivered to you.

4. Shipping

ButcherBox has free shipping on all mail delivery. You can choose between monthly and bi-monthly shipping.

ButcherBox also allows you to track all your packages from their website.

As Debragga doesn’t have a subscription model, their delivery works differently. If you place an order between Sunday and Wednesday, your meat will arrive by 8 PM the next day.

If you place an order after Wednesday, it will be processed next week, and you’ll get overnight delivery once it’s done.

Debragga charges shipping according to zones, going from $9.95 to $49.95. You can also track your cuts of meat on their website.

There’s a page on their website where they offer weekly sale items.

Currently, the special is if you buy Gloucester Old Spot smoked ham and sausages, you’ll get a free pack of smoked bacon. This is a great way to buy discounted chicken, beef, and pork.

Both Debragga and ButcherBox are excellent options, but my vote goes to ButcherBox meat delivery service.
