East Texas Butcher Shop Celebrates 70 Years with Brisket and Giveaways
TYLER, Texas — The Country Meat Market in Tyler marked a major milestone this week, celebrating 70 years of service to the East Texas community.
With a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, the family-owned butchery has been a local favorite for generations, offering quality meats and home-cooked meals.
Originally founded in 1954 by Bud Morris, the market remains a family business, now operated by Steve and Karen Morris. Their great-grandson, Matt Clet, continues the tradition, managing the plant and ensuring the market’s legacy.
The Morris family’s involvement in the meat industry in Smith County dates back to the 1800s, making this anniversary even more meaningful.
As part of the festivities, the market offered giveaways, including two tickets to Nashville and complimentary food. The celebration continues on Saturday, featuring beloved dishes like brisket mac and cheese.
Tom Kohler, a market supervisor, expressed his gratitude, stating, “It’s amazing to be a part of something with such deep roots and history.”
Country Meat Market’s enduring success is a testament to the strong ties between the business and the local community.
