After 50 sizzling summers, Solon Beef Days is saying goodbye to its iconic steak dinners—a move organizers say wasn’t taken lightly.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the team behind the beloved Iowa festival announced the retirement of the decades-old tradition.
“We know this tradition meant a lot to many,” they wrote, “and we’re so grateful for all the years of support.”
The decision, rooted in rising beef prices, came down to dollars and sense. “Steak just isn’t as practical anymore,” said organizer Don Ellis, speaking with KCRG-TV9.
Instead, this year’s guests will bite into steak sandwiches—offering a more affordable and guest-friendly twist.
This year’s Solon Beef Days runs July 18–19. While the plates may look different, the spirit—and the sizzle—lives on.
