Grovetown Unites Around Meat Donations Amid Power Outages Following Storm Helene

In the wake of Storm Helene’s destruction, the city of Grovetown has turned to an age-old solution—coming together over food.

As power outages leave most residents in the dark, city officials have organized a community effort to gather perishable meats from local donors and feed those in need.

At the Fleet Maintenance facility on Newmantown Road, volunteers are hosting a second day of cookouts, providing hot meals to residents and crews working tirelessly to clear storm debris.

The gathering has offered more than just sustenance; it’s become a hub for neighbors to connect, share stories, and stand together through difficult times.

With most of the city still without power, Grovetown officials have asked residents to remain patient. Georgia Power crews are working around the clock, with a goal of restoring electricity by October 5th.

Despite this, the wait continues to stretch out, and residents are being asked to conserve water to help maintain the supply as efforts focus on recovery.

While most city facilities remain closed, an emergency shelter at Liberty Park is still operational, providing a safe space for those affected by the storm.

City Hall and other non-essential offices will remain shut until power is fully restored, with only critical personnel on the job to keep essential services running.

As recovery progresses, the sense of community in Grovetown is clear. Many residents have been dropping off meats and food supplies to ensure no one goes hungry while waiting for services to return.

“We’re doing our absolute best for you,” city officials posted on social media, urging patience and cooperation.

The ongoing cookouts symbolize the resilience and unity that have come to define the community’s response in the wake of Helene. While the storm has left a trail of damage, the people of Grovetown are showing that they will rise above it, together.
