Hurricane Helene Disrupts Wayne-Sanderson Farms Operations

As Hurricane Helene made landfall on the Florida coast on Sept. 27, Wayne-Sanderson Farms updated its social media followers on the storm’s impact on its southern U.S. operations.

The National Weather Service categorized Helene as a Category 4 hurricane, bringing heavy rainfall to Georgia after moving inland.

In a Facebook post, the poultry producer urged, “Please stay safe and tuned to your local news stations for further weather-related updates.”

Several of the company’s plants faced operational disruptions due to the storm. The Dothan, Ala., facility halted its third shift on Sept. 26 and its first shift on Sept. 27. Second and third shifts were expected to resume as scheduled later that day.

Similarly, the Union Springs, Ala., and Enterprise, Ala., plants canceled their first shifts on Sept. 27, but the second and third shifts were slated to operate as usual.

In Moultrie, Ga., second-shift operations were canceled on Sept. 26, and sanitation employees were advised to report later in the day. Both first and second shifts on Sept. 27 were canceled, though sanitation shifts were expected to continue in the evening.

The Pendergrass, Ga., and Dobson, N.C., facilities also canceled their first shifts on Sept. 27, with second shifts scheduled to proceed normally.

Wayne-Sanderson Farms continues to provide updates on social media regarding any further operational changes.
