Meat Cleaver Attack Shakes SEPTA Bus Riders Near Philly Police HQ
In a chilling scene straight from a crime thriller, a SEPTA bus became the stage for a violent meat cleaver attack early Thursday morning, 17th October in Philadelphia.
Around 2:30 a.m., chaos erupted on Broad Street, just steps from the Philadelphia Police headquarters, as a 61-year-old man was suddenly assaulted by a fellow passenger with a meat cleaver.
The driver, thinking quickly, pulled the bus over near the police station. As luck would have it, an officer standing nearby rushed to the scene. Inside, he found a bloody struggle—two men grappling, one wielding the cleaver.
But here’s the twist: the man holding the weapon wasn’t the attacker. He was the victim, who had bravely disarmed his 45-year-old assailant.
Witnesses reported the attacker was muttering strange phrases, hinting at potential mental health issues. Despite being struck in the head and hand, the victim survived what could have been a fatal blow.
As Chief Inspector Scott Small remarked, “We’re really fortunate because the victim was struck in the head with a meat cleaver, which could actually be deadly.”
Both men were taken to the hospital, and the attacker now faces charges, including aggravated assault. With multiple eyewitnesses and security footage from the bus, investigators will soon piece together the full story.
In the world of public transport, this was no ordinary ride, but rather a harrowing reminder that danger can appear out of nowhere—like a sudden storm on a calm day.
