Rebellyous Foods Launches Revolutionary Mock 2 System to Cut Plant-Based Meat Production Costs
Rebellyous Foods has officially launched its innovative Mock 2 plant-based meat production system, marking a new era for the company. After facing delays due to a change in manufacturing partners, the company partnered with RMS Foods to bring the technology to life.
Rebellyous Foods founder and CEO, Christie Lagally, explained that the previous delay occurred when “the facility we previously were going to work with could no longer work with us anymore due to their own systems.”
Despite this challenge, the launch of Mock 2 brings significant advancements in plant-based meat production.
The Mock 2 system is a continuous, automated production line that can produce between 2,500 and 5,000 pounds of plant-based meat per hour.
This patented technology automates essential processes like hydrating proteins and mixing ingredients, allowing for faster and more efficient production of plant-based chicken, which Rebellyous Foods distributes to various food service channels including schools, hospitals, and corporate cafeterias.
Lagally emphasized the importance of this new system, explaining that Mock 2 offers “higher quality — consistent quality — and then lower price overall.”
This innovation moves away from the traditional mix-and-form method used in most plant-based meat production, creating a more cost-effective and scalable solution.
One of the key benefits of Mock 2 is its ability to reduce the need for labor, replacing around 12 employees with just one automation technician. It also cuts energy consumption by 80% and requires only a third of the space that conventional systems use.
According to Lagally, these efficiencies are essential in reducing production costs and moving the plant-based meat industry closer to price parity with animal-based meats.
Lagally also addressed the broader challenges facing the plant-based meat market, noting, “I always like to push back a little on that idea that scale solves everything. It does not.”
She highlighted that despite the success of companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, achieving price parity with traditional meats requires more than just scaling up production; it demands new technology like Mock 2.
Rebellyous Foods continues to grow, with plans to expand the Mock 2 system into additional facilities as the company works to meet the rising demand for plant-based meats.
