Tall City Meat Market Gains Key Approval for Alcohol Sales
Tall City Meat Market has moved one step closer to serving alcohol after the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission approved their request for a Specific Use Designation (SUD) for on-site alcohol sales.
The request, presented by Michael Loya on behalf of the market, faced questions about prior code enforcement issues but was ultimately granted unanimous approval after concerns were addressed.
The market, located on North Big Spring Street, will now be able to offer alcohol within a designated 3,012 square-foot area, with service permitted from 10 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday.
This approval marks a significant milestone for the business, transitioning it further toward a restaurant-style operation.
However, parking and compliance with regulations were topics raised by commissioners, particularly Chair Lucy Sisniega, who questioned if more parking might be needed as the business evolves.
During the meeting, Landon Ochoa, the planning division manager, confirmed that any past code enforcement issues between 2016 and 2021 had been resolved. Despite these concerns, the commissioners gave the green light, recognizing the business’s efforts to comply.
In addition, the P&Z Commission also approved a similar request by Brian Choi for Tokyo 1, a restaurant in the Imperial Shopping Center, allowing alcohol service from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Both approvals will now head to the City Council for a final decision. As these businesses prepare to expand their offerings, local patrons can expect new dining experiences, contributing to the city’s evolving food scene.
