Turkey Cuts and Premium Liquors Dominate New Jersey’s Thanksgiving Shopping Rush

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, New Jersey meat markets and liquor stores are buzzing with activity. This year, unique trends are reshaping holiday shopping habits.

At Sonny’s Meat Market in Edison, turkey wings and legs have overtaken whole turkeys in popularity. “Everybody is always eating the wings or the legs. Nobody’s doing the white meat part,” said owner Sonny Garey.

To meet these demands, Garey had to order turkey wings and legs by the truckload. Display trays are being refilled hourly as customers flock in.

Liquor Stores See Spike in Premium Sales

Meanwhile, liquor stores like Wine Chateau in Metuchen are witnessing a sharp increase in foot traffic. Customers are opting for luxury bottles like Remy XO, Hennessy XO, and Blue Label.

Manager Anoop Puri highlighted the trend, saying, “Tequilas they like are Don Julio 1942 or Clase Azul. They buy French wine, but mostly they are buying California wines.”

Sales have surged by 40% in recent days, with even more shoppers expected as Thanksgiving nears.

Stocking Up for the Feast

Both businesses are bracing for continued demand right up to Thanksgiving. Wine Chateau is extending its hours, staying open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for last-minute shoppers. However, other liquor stores may close early, so patrons should plan ahead.

Whether it’s juicy turkey legs or a fine bottle of cognac, New Jersey residents are gearing up to make this Thanksgiving memorable. As one customer noted, “The wings and wine will be the highlight of our family table this year.”
