York County 4-H Meats Judges Gear Up for National Competition

Four 4-H members from York County, Pennsylvania, are sharpening their skills in meat judging as they prepare to compete at the National 4-H Meat Judging Contest

The team, comprising Alexa Hoke, Jenna Myers, Jessica Myers, and Mitchell Brown, will represent their state at Kansas State University on October 15-16.

These talented youth have mastered identifying cuts of beef, pork, and lamb, determining their origin on the carcass, and assessing the best methods of preparation.

Their journey to the nationals began with a state-level victory earlier this year, where they showcased their ability to judge the quality, marbling, and tenderness of various cuts, as well as deliver oral defenses of their decisions.

Coached by Russell Wilson, John Myers, and Jessica Innerst—who all have deep ties to the 4-H meats judging program—the team continues to hone their expertise in preparation for the national stage.

With a legacy of excellence in York County, these young judges aim to uphold the tradition and bring home another title.
