Global Appetite Keeps U.S. Beef, Pork on the Menu

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is betting the world’s hunger for American beef and pork isn’t fading anytime soon.

President and CEO Dan Halstrom said trade frameworks with Indonesia and Australia are setting the table for steady gains.

Indonesia, once tied up in red tape over plant approvals and halal certifications, could soon deliver $100 million to $200 million in annual sales, mostly for upscale dining.

Latin America remains the star pupil. Markets from Mexico to Chile have been “hitting on all cylinders,” Halstrom noted, powering growth at a time when other regions cool.

In Asia, Japan and South Korea continue to stand tall. Together, they generate more than $3 billion in combined beef and pork sales, fueled by diverse demand and high-spending consumers.

China, once the heavyweight, is sitting on the sidelines. Halstrom said the world’s second-largest economy will eventually “come back to the table,” but for now, keeping access to Japan and South Korea is the priority.
