Wild Boyd Farm to Host Pop-Up and Giveaway in Montbello

Wild Boyd Farm, one of Colorado’s few Black-owned meat-producing farms, is set to bring fresh, local produce to Denver’s Montbello neighborhood.

The farm’s upcoming pop-up shop and giveaway event on Nov. 16 will serve as a valuable resource for residents, especially those in neighborhoods considered food deserts, like Montbello, where grocery stores are scarce.

Terrance Boyd, owner of Wild Boyd Farm, shared that these events are part of a broader mission to make fresh food accessible to everyday consumers. “This month is the month of giving,” Boyd said, “so we’re going to be giving some product away.”

Since buying the Elbert County farm five years ago, Boyd has expanded operations to serve local schools, nonprofits, and consumers across Denver and Colorado Springs. His journey into farming was fueled by a desire to provide nutritious food for communities in need.

“I was interested in how to produce healthy food that lacks in communities in the metro area,” he explained.

Boyd’s journey hasn’t been an easy one; farming doesn’t run in his family, and he learned the ropes largely on his own. He started with pigs, gradually expanding to include chickens, cattle, sheep, and goats.

The farm also offers a “What’s for Dinner” bundle, featuring two pounds each of ground beef, chicken breast, and Italian sausage, delivered free for $50.

With a focus on serving culturally appropriate foods, Boyd offers a range of meats, from boiling beef to skirt steaks.

Collaborator and butcher Maarten van Zoeren highlighted the importance of local producers like Boyd in countering the misconception that all meat is mass-produced. “People think everything comes from a big company,” van Zoeren noted, “but it doesn’t have to be that way.”

Despite challenges facing Black farmers nationally, Boyd remains focused on filling a vital need. “Every time I cut on the news, there’s a grocery store closing down,” Boyd said. “There’s local production that can happen regardless of what color you are.”

The Wild Boyd Farm pop-up event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at 13150 E. 48th Avenue in Denver, giving local residents a chance to support a family-owned business and bring fresh, quality meat to their tables.
