Forensic Report Confirms No Beef in Meat from Lynched Migrant’s Home in Haryana
In a tragic incident that shook Haryana, Saabir Malik, a migrant laborer, was lynched by a group of cow vigilantes in Charkhi Dadri on August 27 over allegations of beef consumption.
The forensic report released on October 27 confirmed that the meat seized from Saabir’s residence was not beef, although it did not specify the exact animal source.
According to Badhra DSP Bharat Bhushan, “The forensic report of the meat seized from the family stated that it was not beef.” Bhushan further noted that a chargesheet against all 10 accused individuals, including two minors from nearby villages, would soon be filed in court.
The accused allegedly assaulted Saabir with sticks, leading to his death, while another family member managed to escape.
The incident unfolded when a group of men, reportedly part of a local cow vigilante group, approached Saabir’s shanty and accused the family of consuming beef. They allegedly summoned Saabir and a relative to a nearby bus stand, where Saabir was fatally beaten.
A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing the brutal assault, which led to public outcry.
This case is part of a troubling pattern of violent incidents linked to cow protection vigilantism in Haryana. Several similar cases have been reported, including the August 23 killing of 19-year-old Aryan Mishra and the February 2023 deaths of two young men whose charred remains were found in a vehicle.
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda called for “strict action” against such vigilante violence, urging the state government to prevent further incidents.
The Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015, strictly prohibits the sale and consumption of beef, but critics argue that the law has contributed to increased violence by empowering vigilantes.
The recent forensic finding underscores the tragic consequences of hasty accusations and underscores the need for strengthened protections for vulnerable communities.
