As the 179th Muskingum County Fair draws to a close, there’s one food stand that stands out for both its delicious offerings and community impact.
For years, the Muskingum County Cattlemen’s Association has been a beloved presence at the fair, serving up burgers, ribeye sandwiches, and all-beef hot dogs.
The proceeds from this week’s sales go directly back into the community, supporting 4-H programs and the fairgrounds.
This annual tradition also acts as a chance for local cattle producers to champion the benefits of buying local beef.
James McDonald, vice president of the Muskingum County Cattlemen’s Association, explained, “People want to know what they’re eating and where it’s from.
We emphasize local beef because you can meet the farmers who raise it right here in Muskingum County. Most of the time, you can buy directly from them and know exactly what’s in your beef.”
McDonald finds the real value in the experience. “It’s the camaraderie that makes it all worthwhile. We’re all volunteers.
Over the week, about 60-70 people come together to cook the steaks, hamburgers, and hot dogs. We believe it’s some of the best fair food around.”
As the fair wraps up tomorrow, be sure to check their website for a map and event details. Don’t miss out on supporting local producers while enjoying top-notch fair food.
