RCMP Investigates $60,000 Meat-Buying Scam in Alberta
Alberta’s RCMP is seeking victims and the suspect behind a large-scale meat-buying scam that has left 16 individuals defrauded of approximately $60,000.
The investigation centers on a fraudulent company, DBL Meats, which posed as a provider of fresh farm products.
How the Scam Unfolded
The scam began when victims arranged sizable meat orders with DBL Meats, believed to be based in Kelowna, British Columbia. Payments, totaling around $60,000, were made via e-transfer. However, the promised products were never delivered.
“Investigation has determined DBL Meats is not a legitimate company and had fraudulently obtained money from the victims,” stated the RCMP.
Krysta-Lyn Williams, a 36-year-old resident of Penticton, British Columbia, has been charged with fraud over $5,000. A warrant for her arrest has been issued, and authorities believe additional victims may still come forward.
A Call for Information
The RCMP is urging anyone who has interacted with DBL Meats or has information regarding Williams’ whereabouts to contact them at 403-443-5539.
