Steakhouse Infamous for Salt Bae Feud Suffers £5,000 Meat Theft
Relentless Steak and Lobster, a well-known Portsmouth restaurant that once called out viral chef Salt Bae for “taking the mick” with his pricey gold-coated steak, is facing a setback of its own.
This week, the steakhouse reported a staggering £5,000 worth of premium meat stolen, from tomahawk steaks to fillet cuts, and even chicken wings.
The brazen theft occurred between 11 p.m. on Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday, just days before the restaurant’s stock was set to be used for holiday office parties and a christening.
The restaurant has since turned to social media for help, urging the public to “make it too hot to sell on,” and emphasizing, “These are our tomahawks and you can’t buy them anywhere, so if you see them, you know it’s Relentless stock.”
This isn’t the first time Relentless Steak and Lobster has drawn attention. In 2021, after Salt Bae, or Nusret Gökçe, priced a gold-coated tomahawk steak at £630, Relentless owner Scott Matthews responded with his own version, offering it for £120.
At the time, Matthews remarked, “We saw Salt Bae’s restaurant and we thought they’re taking the mick there. For him, that’s got to be about £500 profit in each steak.”
The recent theft prompted a swift response, and the restaurant has reopened, thanks to “a big massive thank you to our suppliers for quickly responding to the emergency.”
Meanwhile, Hampshire Constabulary has arrested a 44-year-old Portsmouth woman on suspicion of burglary, though the missing stock remains at large. The police are investigating, while Relentless Steak and Lobster reassures customers, “We won’t let scum bags kill the brand.”
