Shocking Discovery: Live Maggots Found in Steak at Sydney Restaurant

Dining out is meant to be a treat, but for one Sydney family, it turned into a nightmare. A woman visiting Lone Star Rib House in Penrith on November 10 had a disturbing encounter when she spotted live maggots wriggling on her $65 steak.

The woman, who wishes to remain unnamed, described the horrifying moment, saying, “I sort of zoomed in, looking at the piece of steak and thought, ‘That’s really odd, there are things moving.’”

Her husband initially thought it was seasoning, but a closer inspection revealed otherwise. The family alerted the restaurant staff, who assured them of the establishment’s “high-star food and health safety ratings.”

Still, the damage was done. “I just said, ‘No, I can’t eat here… I just want to leave,’” the diner explained.

Restaurant Response and Inspection Results

Despite the unsettling discovery, the restaurant claimed the maggots came from the salad, not the steak. However, the family strongly refuted this, insisting the insects were clearly crawling on the meat.

“They were having the time of their life on that piece of steak, and there was not one maggot on the salad,” the woman said.

The Lone Star Rib House did not offer an official apology, but a replacement meal was offered. The woman declined, saying she was too “grossed out.”

The following morning, an independent health inspection found no signs of contamination, with food reportedly stored in sealed containers. According to Lone Star, the incident remains unexplained.

Impact and Investigation

The Penrith Council, in partnership with the NSW Food Authority, has launched an investigation. Meanwhile, the incident has left a lasting impression on the customer. “I now cook my food longer just to make sure,” she shared, emphasizing her lingering discomfort.

This shocking story serves as a chilling reminder of how even a meal can sometimes come with uninvited guests. It also raises pressing questions about food safety standards and customer trust in restaurants.
