Method To Make Chicken In The Slow Cooker
Once you have brought your fresh ingredients and have prepared them accordingly, you are now ready to begin cooking your chicken in your slow cooker.
Here is the method you can use to cook the perfect whole chicken in a slow cooker.
Before you begin cooking, always remember to cook your chicken all the way through to avoid any possible contamination by bacteria that can severely affect your health [1].
- Step 1 – once you have chopped all your vegetables, arrange them at the bottom of your slow cooker, along with the rosemary and thyme sprigs and the garlic. This will create a nice “nest” for your chicken to lay on top of.
- Step 2 – combine the ground black pepper, paprika, Kosher salt, dried thyme, and extra-virgin olive oil in a small mixing bowl to form a seasoning paste for your chicken.
- Step 3 – Now, you will prepare your chicken by removing the neck and the giblets if your chicken still has these. Then dry both the inside and outside of your chicken with a few paper towels to help the seasoning paste stick to the chicken better.
- Step 4 – when your chicken has been dried off, spread the seasoning paste over your chicken, ensuring to cover the whole chicken to maximize flavor. Then place the chicken on top of the vegetables in your slow cooker breast side up.
- Step 5 – place the lid on your slow cooker and cook the chicken on high for between 4 and 5 hours or until the chicken has cooked through.
- Step 6 – the following step is optional and only needs to be done if you want the skin on your chicken to be crispy.
Once the chicken has cooked through in your slow cooker, carefully transfer the chicken to a rack on top of a baking tray.
Brush the chicken’s skin with some extra-virgin olive oil and broil the chicken in your oven 10” away from the top for 5 minutes.
