No Injuries Reported in Fire at South Austin Meat Market

An early morning fire broke out at Zapco Meat Market in South Austin on Wednesday, causing significant damage but no injuries.

The Austin Fire Department (AFD) is investigating the cause of the blaze, which started around 3:30 a.m. at the market located on West Stassney Lane near South First Street.

When fire crews arrived, they found black smoke billowing from a front window and multiple spotfires throughout the store.

The flames had also spread into the roof. Firefighters acted quickly to control the fire and prevent it from reaching nearby businesses.

Damage Assessment

Though the store was empty at the time and no one was hurt, the fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damages. According to AFD, this includes $300,000 in structural damage and $200,000 in lost contents.

Arson investigators have been called to the scene, and crews remain on-site to ensure there are no hidden flames or risks of reignition.

The swift response from firefighters ensured that the fire was contained, bringing relief to neighboring businesses and residents. As the investigation continues, the community awaits updates on the cause of the incident.
