Polish Delights Await as Hooligan’s Artisan Meats Expands into a Restaurant
Fruitport, Michigan, is gearing up for a culinary treat as Hooligan’s Artisan Meats expands into a restaurant. This local favorite, known for its fresh sausages and jerkies, is adding a new dimension to its offerings with Hooligans Tavern, set to open in January 2025.
David Gawlik, owner of both the meat market and the new restaurant, is bringing his love for authentic Polish cuisine to Muskegon County.
“We’re gonna try to tap back into the Polish food, at least on a limited basis. When you walk in, you’re going to smell that great aroma like walking into grandma’s Polish kitchen,” Gawlik shared.
The restaurant will showcase products from the adjacent meat market, transforming them into delicious meals that combine tradition with a modern twist.
Hooligan’s Artisan Meats, which opened in 2021, has already built a loyal customer base with its variety of meat products, from bratwurst to beef sticks. “We always have samples out for people to try,” said Gawlik, highlighting the market’s welcoming atmosphere.
The expansion was initially scheduled for October but faced delays due to COVID-related construction setbacks. Despite the challenges, Gawlik remains optimistic about the new venture.
Kitchen Manager Alec Ayala emphasized the vision behind the tavern, saying, “The intention is to bring all of those products over to this side and showcase them in a restaurant environment.”
Gawlik’s previous restaurant, Old World Pub in East Muskegon, also focused on Polish cuisine, and many former patrons are eagerly awaiting his latest project.
“I’ve got people coming from Grand Rapids, Hudsonville, Allendale, up north,” Gawlik said. “It’s going to be good food, good drinks, good atmosphere.”
With hiring underway and final preparations in progress, the community is eagerly anticipating the opening of Hooligans Tavern—a new hub for hearty meals and a welcoming vibe in Muskegon County.
