Vegetarian Kyle Struggles After Eating Meat in Exclusive Survivor 47 Deleted Scene
Survivor is known for pushing its contestants to their limits, and for Kyle Ostwald, that meant grappling with a personal challenge during Survivor 47—breaking his vegetarian streak.
In an exclusive deleted scene from episode 2, Kyle, a 31-year-old construction worker from Cheboygan, Michigan, faces a tough decision on day 4: whether to eat crab for the first time in over eight years.
While hunting with fellow tribemate TK Foster, Kyle admits to not eating anything that “don’t grow in the dirt.” But hunger soon overrides his convictions.
“I think I’m going to do it,” he confesses to TK, acknowledging that he hasn’t eaten meat in years. With encouragement from TK and Gabe Ortis, Kyle takes a bite. When asked how it tastes, Kyle responds, “Like I’m doing something wrong.”
Despite support from his tribemates, including Caroline’s reassurance that the meal is “nurturing you through your family,” Kyle’s guilt remains.
Reflecting on his choice, he says, “I haven’t harmed anything with a heartbeat in a long time,” expressing regret after compromising his long-held vegetarian values.
Still, Kyle recognizes the need to prioritize survival over personal beliefs. “If I’m going to continue to provide for my family… I have to do what I have to do for me,” he explains. His motivation? Inspiring his children and fiancée, even if it means stepping outside his comfort zone.
As Kyle wrestles with his decision, he reminds himself, “What happens on Survivor stays on Survivor.” Well, almost—especially when cameras are rolling.
