Worker’s Death at JBS Tolleson Plant Sparks Investigation
A long-time employee of the JBS meat packing plant in Tolleson was found unresponsive on Wednesday morning, prompting a full investigation.
The incident occurred at the facility near 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road around 8:45 a.m. Despite efforts from police and fire officials to revive the worker, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The cause of death is under investigation,” said Lt. Lee Garrett of the Tolleson Police Department. Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances.
JBS Responds With Condolences
In a statement to ABC15, JBS representatives expressed their sorrow over the loss of the team member, emphasizing that the death was “unrelated to work.”
The company added, “The decision was made to close the facility during the first shift of the day out of respect to the team member. Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s family, co-workers, and friends.”
The plant remained closed temporarily as a gesture of respect, leaving the usually bustling production floor silent. The company has pledged to cooperate fully with authorities as the investigation continues.
Safety Protocols Under Review
The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) confirmed it would conduct a thorough review of the facility to determine if any safety violations occurred. This step is routine in such cases and is aimed at ensuring compliance with workplace safety standards.
For now, the plant, its workers, and the local community are left grappling with the unexpected loss. Updates are expected as investigators work to uncover the circumstances behind the tragedy.
“This is an active investigation. Please check back for updates,” officials emphasized. Meanwhile, JBS and local authorities aim to provide closure to the grieving family and community.
