Beef Commission and Second Harvest Partner to Support Families in December
This December, the Washington State Beef Commission and Second Harvest are joining forces to bring relief to families in need through their Beef Counts Mobile Markets.
Scheduled from December 4 to 6, the initiative will distribute beef at three locations across Toppenish, Yakima, and Ellensburg. The program aims to serve up to 300 families per site, ensuring holiday tables are filled with nutritious meals.
“The folks in Washington’s beef community know how to stretch a dollar, and their donations are critical to us as we work to help feed our friends and neighbors in need,” said Drew Meuer, President of Second Harvest.
A Tradition of Giving
Marking its 15th year, the Beef Counts program reflects the collective generosity of Washington’s beef farmers, ranchers, and Agri Beef Co.
By raising funds year-round, the partnership ensures families struggling with food insecurity can access quality beef—a vital source of protein and comfort during tough times.
Ryan Stingley, President of the Kittitas County Cattlemen’s Association, expressed the community’s gratitude and hope.
“Even when times are tough, we’re blessed to have beef in our freezers, so Beef Counts gives us the chance to feed hungry people in our own communities.”
Registration and Locations
Families must pre-register to receive distributions at the following locations:
- Toppenish: Legends Casino, Dec. 4, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
- Yakima: State Fair Park, Dec. 5, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
- Ellensburg: Kittitas Valley Event Center, Dec. 6, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
The program’s mission extends beyond feeding families; it also aims to brighten holidays. “We hope that getting beef out to folks through Second Harvest this December helps make people’s holidays a little brighter,” Stingley added.
This annual partnership serves as a reminder of the power of community and the importance of giving back, ensuring no family goes without this holiday season.
