- 1 cup cola
- 1 cup tomato juice
- ¾ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup bourbon
- ¼ cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce
- Over medium heat, combine the olive oil, brown sugar, and onion in a saucepan.
- Add mustard and paprika to the above.
- Once the onions are transparent and soft, add soy sauce, vinegar, bourbon, ketchup, tomato juice, cola, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 15 minutes and until thick.
- Remove from stovetop and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
- You can double this recipe and freeze half of it for later use. Simply place in a freezer-safe container and thaw when ready to enjoy another Chicago-style steak sandwich.
