“Living the Dream”: McGregor Pastor Opens Thriving Meat Market

In a true testament to perseverance and passion, Steven Estrada, Sr., a 60-year-old McGregor, Texas resident, has realized his lifelong dream.

After dedicating 40 years to the meat industry, Estrada opened the doors to his very own store, Old Fashion Meat Market, on Main Street.

Since its debut, the shop has been buzzing with customers, marking a promising start for this family-run business.

From Butcher to Business Owner

Estrada, who grew up in Belton and has lived in McGregor for nearly four decades, has built an extensive career in the meat industry.

Beginning at Triad Foods in Moody in 1988, he honed his skills at a Waco slaughterhouse and later at an old-fashioned meat market in Lacy Lakeview. Estrada then became a familiar face as the meat market manager at Brookshire Brothers in McGregor before a brief stint at HEB.

His expertise in the field is well-known. “They say you can trust your preacher, your doctor, and your butcher,” Estrada remarked with a chuckle, a nod to his dual role as both a pastor at Rock of My Salvation Church and now, the proud owner of a meat market.

A Family Affair

Estrada’s journey to entrepreneurship was fueled by his faith and the unwavering support of his family, including his wife, Tommie, and son, Timothy.

Together, they’ve created a haven for meat enthusiasts. “My family has been behind me,” Estrada shared. “This is what dreaming does. It’s fantastic.”

The market offers a range of fresh, locally sourced meats, including chicken from Bryan, pork products, and a selection of beef cuts—spanning Angus to grass-fed, grain-finished options sourced from Barnard Beef Company.

Estrada emphasized his commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, promising to slice meats to order, whether for single portions or bulk.

A Community Celebration

To celebrate this milestone, the McGregor Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.

For Estrada, it’s not just a business—it’s a mission. “I have a very big passion to serve people,” he said. “For the last 20 years, I was thinking, ‘I want to do my own meat market.’ Now, here I am.”

The Old Fashion Meat Market is open Monday through Saturday at 201 South Main Street, McGregor, Texas, offering a slice of Estrada’s dream—and some of the freshest cuts around.
