Nationwide Recalls on Ground Beef, Carrots, and More to Be Aware of Right Now

Recent recalls have brought attention to several widely distributed food products, including produce, baked goods, and ground beef.

These recalls, driven by concerns over contamination and foodborne illnesses, emphasize the importance of checking your kitchen for potentially hazardous items.

Organic Carrots

Grimmway Farms has issued a global recall on organic whole and baby carrots due to an E. coli outbreak linked to nearly 40 illnesses, including one fatality.

These carrots were sold at major retailers like Costco, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Wegmans, and Whole Foods. Symptoms of E. coli infection include stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and fever.

If you have any of these carrots at home, dispose of them immediately or return them to the store for a refund.

Ground Beef

A separate E. coli outbreak has been connected to ground beef patties distributed to restaurants nationwide. While these products were not sold in retail stores, diners who recently consumed burgers and are experiencing symptoms should contact a healthcare provider immediately.

This infection can be particularly severe for vulnerable groups, such as young children, older adults, and pregnant individuals.

Pistachios

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled Nut Works Raw Whole Pistachios in Ontario due to Salmonella concerns. These pistachios, sold in 150-gram containers, carry UPC 803871 603801 and various 2025 best-by dates.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection, including diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, can appear 6 hours to 6 days after exposure and last up to a week. Dispose of affected products and clean any surfaces they may have touched.

Walmart Bakery Items

Over 40,000 Great Value Cheese Danish and Cinnamon Rolls sold at Walmart have been recalled due to the presence of plastic in the products.

These pastries, labeled with lot number L092525200 269X, may still be stored in homes. Return these items for a refund to avoid potential injury or illness.

Costco Butter Croissants

Costco has recalled Butter Croissants sold between September 8 and November 10, 2024, due to metal contamination in the salt used during production.

Consumers are urged to dispose of these croissants or seek more information by contacting Costco at 1-800-955-2292.

Protecting Your Household

Foodborne illnesses can easily spread through contaminated items. To ensure safety:

  • Dispose of any recalled products.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that may have come into contact with the items.
