Old World Meat Co. Introduces Balkan Cuisine to Escondido
Old World Meat Co., a family-run business in Escondido, has opened its doors to bring traditional Balkan flavors to the local community.
Owned by Bosko and Laura Kresovich, along with their children Sofija, Nickola, and Maja, the restaurant showcases dishes rooted in the Balkans, reflecting their heritage while incorporating American influences.
A Taste of the Old World
The menu offers specialties such as ćevapčići, a Balkan-style grilled sausage, and pljeskavica, a Serbian burger made from a blend of beef, lamb, and pork, topped with unique accompaniments like ajvar (a roasted bell pepper and eggplant spread) and kajmak (a creamy feta spread).
The offerings are prepared without traditional sausage casings, enhancing the authentic experience.
For those seeking familiar flavors, sides such as homemade coleslaw, potato salad, and French fries are available. The Kresovich family ensures every item is crafted in-house with their secret blend of spices, handed down through generations.
From Catering to Culinary Dreams
The couple’s culinary journey began in 2008 with catering events for their Serbian Orthodox Church. Encouraged by positive feedback, they expanded to catering festivals and eventually opened a deli in 2019.
Despite challenges posed by the pandemic, they persevered, remodeling and opening their restaurant at 2209 E. Valley Parkway, in a building Bosko’s parents constructed in 1973.
Community-Centric Approach
Old World Meat Co. is more than just a restaurant—it’s a community hub. The family caters to local veterans and first responders, offers holiday hog and lamb roasts, and occasionally serves weekend specials like ribs.
With a grand opening on the horizon, Escondido residents can look forward to savoring these unique, time-honored flavors
