Ridgewater College’s Meat Cutting Program Garners Prestigious State Award for Excellence
Willmar, MN — In just two short years, Ridgewater College’s meat-cutting program has carved out a reputation for excellence, earning the 2024 Outstanding Post-Secondary Agriculture Program Award from the Minnesota Association of Agriculture Educators.
The recognition is a nod to the program’s innovation, effectiveness, and role in revitalizing agricultural education.

Led by Sophia (Thommes) Berg, the program has taken education in meat processing to new heights. The curriculum offers Beginning Meat Cutting and Advanced Meat Processing certificates through online courses and hands-on training.

Berg’s academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a master’s degree in agriculture education from South Dakota State University.
